It just hit me that we're deep into September, which means that Homecoming season has descended upon the high schools of America. So here's a pretty wonderful heart-warming homecoming story.

At Grande Prairie High School, a group of mean girls thought it would be hilarious to prank 17-year-old senior Lily Skinner, tricking her into thinking she had been nominated for homecoming queen, when she hadn't been. Considering that's basically the premise of one of the most iconic horror movies of all time, let's just say, this real-life version ends a lot better.

After hearing about the prank, two of Skinner's best friends, Anahi Alvarez and Naomi Martinez, who were actually nominated for homecoming court decided to change things up if either of them were crowned homecoming queen. Via NBC Chicago:

"We promised each other and we were like, 'No matter what, no backing down. If one of us wins, we're giving Lillian the crown,'" Martinez said.

Last Friday night at the homecoming football game, Alvarez and Martinez planned to have their principal escort Skinner onto the field when the time came to crown the new homecoming royalty. Skinner thought she was simply there to take pictures, but had the surprise of her life when Alvarez was crowned homecoming queen.

"When she won the queen, I took a picture and she told me to come over. And I said, 'It's OK. It's OK. It's your crown, you know? My name is not on the list,'" Skinner said.

Slowly it dawned on Skinner what was really happening, according to the others in attendance.

"That's when it was just, the moment itself took over," Arendse said, still smiling four days after the fact.

"I was like, 'Wow, really? Like, wow! Like, is this a dream or something?'" Skinner said Tuesday, pinching her arm as she did.

"Well, for me, I want to say, and I always say, 'Lilly won. I just ran in her place, in her position,'" Alvarez said. "When they ask me, 'Were you homecoming queen?' I say, 'No, Lilly is homecoming queen.'"

There you have it. The perfect IDGAF feel-good, cheesy, ugly-cry story of three best friends and a homecoming tiara and a kind deed. DEAL WITH IT.
