@Penny: I'd pick one up at Goodwill, for sure. Embellished chiffon can be really cool looking.

@baraqiel: We do a lot of other work besides shows and editorials (which pay little/nothing). Like catalogs, and other more commercial jobs. Those bridge the gaps. Read more

@Sandicomm: Balmain is the obvious candidate — and good catch on the Olivier Theyskens, too. But I seriously doubt Anna Wintour would call either "some unnamed designer." (I took that to mean "some no-name designer.") Especially given she's a famous booster of Theyskens' work.

@Deborah2000: My shoes are often mistaken for small watercraft, and my size is one of the easiest to find on sale. My powers are at their greatest at the end of the season, when all the pygmy-footed 8s and 9s have shopped to their hearts' content. Because then the 10s and 11s remain, marked down 50%.

@mepo - Robert Cornhole invented it: Actually, only AusNTM's Alice Burdeu has done that. And I think it was probably a fluke. The producers actually passed on casting Myf Shepherd in a subsequent season. Myf walked for Givenchy, Gucci, and Balenciaga, among many others, this spring.

@arirang: That is not true. Last time I went to a Filene's, I walked out with a Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti silk satin cocktail dress identical to one once worn by Anne Hathaway on the cover of a magazine. Original retail was something like $2300. I paid $112. There is an awful lot of the "bridge" tat, but if you Read more

@Mama Penguino: Oh, the number of times the cute guy at the party with whom I was totally beginning to have a Thing has slunk off to hit on some fucking intern after I've had to tell him what I do for a living. (Note: "intern" is a "job" I have held, no hate, it's just it is always the intern that these dudes suddenly Read more

@jianna: Try Ferragamo or Belgian shoes for narrow sizes. From thrift stores, obviously! Otherwise those labels will run you hundreds. But they actually do a good job with the AA, AAA, and even AAAA sizes.

@PersonOfInterest: Yes, that would be Gilles Bensimon. He was Elle magazine's creative director/main photographer for eons. Before he married Kelly, he was married to Elle Macpherson. Bensimon was a kingmaker of the 80s/90s supes.

@Johnny_Rocket: Yes. That's exactly how it works. Tao Okamoto was an old hand by the time I first came to Paris. The idea of the "new" girl is, in 99% of cases, a fiction. She was there — it's just that you didn't notice.

@lawschoolmakesmecrazy: I think I felt like I was in danger of putting all the darker-skinned Latinas (Sessilee Lopez, Arlenis Sosa) into the "Black" category, and I suppose I was trying to maintain some kind of balance in that regard. And to, you know, not have a "Latina" category full of girls who really look pretty Read more
