Okay, I’m late to the party, but I’ve been waiting for this rediscovery of the 70s (and “dated” things in general). One of the things that drives me nuts about design shows—and designed things in general—is the whole “oh dear lord, you can’t possibly use THAT” attitude, and the fact that you almost never see people Read more

I got all y’all beat. This was my parents’ kitchen floor until 1998; the house I grew up in and our main entrance to the house. Flower print Congoleum. They remodeled with tile in 1998, but kept the old Magic Chef oven and Waring blender and Jennair downdraft range top. The Jennair and Magic Chef only left this earth Read more

As someone who lived through the 70s I’d rather not revisit them, but I would like to return to having wood cabinets look like wood cabinets. Why cover all of that nice maple in paint? Let it shine! Those that insist on white-on-white-on-white are just too chicken shit to pick a damn color.

I have that Waring blender! It’s been passed down from my parents to my older sister to me and the thing is a tank. Not just the thick glass jar but the base is so much more heavy and solid than newer ones it’s not even close. I’m not exaggerating when I say that this blender will outlive us all.

This was my mother’s kitchen to a ‘T’. Instead of brick, she had these cedar wood panels that were stacked like bricks. Even the lino looked like stones in a riverbed.

I do like the warmth and the wood table. I question all those texures, though--they’re gonna get all greasy and dingy. Also, NO CLOTH OTTOMANS IN A KITCHEN. You’re gonna trip over that bitch for sure.

So my house is from 1987, and other than the flooring and paint it has not been redone yet. I have a very big used brick feature around the stove and I love it. I always have. When I do get to redo the kitchen, I think I will keep it. I’m sure every designer and person I know will look at me sideways, but there has to Read more

Ah the 70's.....where all color and design was like a fondue party. Read more

Looks like the unreleased sequel to Reefer Madness.

I have done bumper cars sloshed with a bunch of friends, and it’s every bit as fun as you’d think. The guy running it was as well (a drunk carnie? Who would have thought?). Read more

Classy enough to bring a glass to drink in your race car, rather than just drinking it straight from the bottle. Archer would approve.

Mrs Glenfiddich up there appears to have started drinking after she took out her curlers, then forgot to tease out and set that hair. That is an unfinished 60s ‘do. Read more

Thank you so much for this article! For me, Shirley Jackson adaptations are right up there with Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein - Each new adaptation provides a new source of anger/disappointment that yet again, another production has entirely missed the fucking point! How have these stories managed to remain enduring Read more

Read a galley of this a few months ago and I can honestly say- this is the goddamn book of the year. Read more

OMG you wrote about my favorite fucking author, thank you!!! Her writing is above and beyond, especially as a black fantasy nerd who is rarely represented in other novels I read, but I find myself in every one of her published novels (yes, I have read them all). Thanks, Jezebel!

My sister is a big sci fi fan, and she recommended NK Jemisin to me after pledging to read more SF by people of color and women. I‘m not, but thought I’d give it a go. I devoured the Broken Earth trilogy and LOVED it. I also lived in NYC for 5 years during grad school, so I’m really looking forward to reading this. Read more
