The way she spoke to people had a lot to do with her popularity. She seemed always so eager to learn about a person and why they were the way they were. My mom never missed a show and she even got us kids into it. Read more

If you wish to view a fine variety of examples of treasures that were taken from a plethora of different peoples against their will, you can visit almost any large museum in Britain. Read more

If I were a fancy UK buyer I’d buy it, tear it up and repatriate the jewels to organizations that support people from the gems’ geographical origin. The UK’s riches came at the cost of the colonized and it’s time they get some of that back. Read more

That 1840s fashion of parting the hair down the middle, plastering it to the sides of the head, and then looping some curls or braids in front of the ears was so unfortunate. It’s, like, the 19th century Flock of Seagulls - not a good idea for anybody. Read more

I don’t know know that anyone will see this, but as a woodworker, walking around a lumberyard, pulling out and inspecting boards makes me giddy. Now, I’m not, but I have associated who are reclaimed wood addicts, and some of their finds are amazing. Rare wood, old growth wood, woods that are illegal to harvest today, Read more

My dad belongs to a club of woodworkers and handymen. They are all retired farmers in their 70s for whom waste of any kind is anathema, and they scrounge for “recycled” wood like mofos. The difference is, they don’t like the stuff they make to look like it’s made from recycled wood. They fill in the nail holes and Read more

My husband and I were astounded when we were in Sweden this summer that TGI Friday’s is a legit fancy restaurant there. Even his Swedish relatives concurred that it was considered a bit ‘posh.’ There are two TGI Friday’s in downtown Stockholm that legit have a bouncer and thumping electronic music at night. It’s quite Read more
