Armie Hammer Says There Won't Be a Call Me By Your Name Sequel for a Few Years, Which Is Fine

After some speculation—and speculation about the speculation—Armie Hammer has once again “confirmed” that a Call Me By Your Name sequel is in the works. (Maybe.) But if we do indeed check in with Elio and Oliver and their special peach again, it won’t be for years and years.

Vulture reports that at the Savannah Film Festival on Monday, Hammer told the crowd that Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino’s already plotting Call Me By Your Name 2. “Luca has walked me through the movie: where it starts, where it goes, where it ends, all the characters, and everything that’s supposed to happen,” Hammer said. “We know this, he’s basically broken this down for us.”

But Guadagnino’s not quite ready to take us back to languid Italy—in fact, he’s waiting a few years for Hammer and costar Timothée Chalamet to ripen in real time. “[C]hronologically in the story line, it doesn’t happen right after the first one,” Hammer said. “There is a gap. So Luca wants to wait so that we age a bit more so that gap makes sense, kind of like a Linklater thing.”

Considering I spent half of Call Me By Your Name wondering why a 40-year-old man was hitting on a pre-teen (I spent the other half crying), I feel like only Chalamet needs time to ripen, but. Anyway, there will probably be 75 Marvel films and four Pirates of the Caribbean reboots between then and now, so I’m fine.
