Amanda Knox "Shocked" After Fellow Convict Accuses Her Of Killing Roommate

It’s getting more and more difficult to keep track of all the accusations flying during Amanda Knox’s appeal trial. Earlier this month, several convicts were called to testify, and one said Rudy Guede, who’s currently serving a 16-year sentence for Meredith Kercher’s murder, confessed during prison recreation time that he killed her with a friend.

On the stand today, Guede denied that he’d ever talked to the man, according to the Associated Press. Prosecutors then read a letter Guede wrote last year in which he said he thought Knox and then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito committed the murder. He added that he had nothing to do with the “horrible murder of the splendid and wonderful Meredith Kercher by Knox and Sollecito.”

Defense lawyers said they didn’t know the letter existed until today. CNN reports that Knox was only allowed to speak after Guede left the court, and said she would have liked to deny his accusations to his face. She said:

“The only time that Rudy Guede, Raffaele Sollecito and I were in one room together was in a court room…. He knows what the truth is. I don’t know what happened that night.”

Carlo della Vedova, Knox’s lawyer, said that Guede’s statements were based on a “feeling,” not anything he’d actually witnessed. Knox’s mother, Edda Mellas, said Guede, “continues to lie about Amanda and that’s unfortunate.” She added that it’s “devastating to watch your child in pain,” and said she can’t understand why Knox could serve 26 years for Kercher’s murder, while with good behavior, Guede may spend only seven years in prison.
