Alexander Wang: For the High-Fashion Dystopian Urbanite in You

Before his fall/winter 2014 runway show, Alexander Wang had told the media that the theme of his forthcoming line would be “survival.” As evidence of his commitment to this idea, he forced the fashion elite to trek to Brooklyn — the Brooklyn Navy yard, to be specific — where he staged his show in a greenhouse.

The line’s aesthetic was fairly utilitarian, in its own bizarre way: it opened with boxy shift dresses littered with pockets, paired with thigh-high waders. Also notable: bold, graphic cyberpunk-esque prints; shearling coats with dramatic, oversized silhouettes; drawstring leather sweatpants that bear more than a passing resemblance to high-fashion garbage bags. Also: NO EYEBROWS ON ANY OF THE MODELS. (Hood By Air was another line to engage in brow-defacement over the weekend.)
