After Mom's Death, 7-Year-Old Raises Over S16,000 to Fight Cancer

Latest

In January, 7-year-old Kenna Reeder’s mother died of breast cancer. The very next day, Kenna walked into the kitchen holding her savings in a money jar. She started counting the bills and change and informed her dad that she was getting ready for Relay for Life, the American Cancer Society’s yearly overnight fundraising walk. And she wasn’t messing around.

Throwing bake sales galore, and harnessing the power of a couple dozen volunteers, Kenna organized a massive memorial to her mom — and created something to help other survivors in the process. Having brought in $16,000 so far, Team Reeder Kids is the top fundraiser out of all 82 teams in the Cambrian Relay for Life.

Future President material, no doubt.
