A Woman Is Burned Alive in the New Yeah Yeah Yeahs Video

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs new video is here and it is…intentionally disturbing. The storyline plays out in reverse chronology, ending/beginning with supermodel Lily Cole being burned alive with her murdered lover. Cole, as it unfolds, had been having affairs with the whole town — the men (and one woman) she’d been with are the ones who drag her onto the pyre, set it alight, and watch her die — and eventually shacked up with a priest. The angry, slut-shamey mob then sets upon the couple and kills them both, shooting him in the chest and tying her to a stake. Meanwhile, Karen O. sings “sacrilege” over and over in the chorus. It’s a hellish and creepy vision.
