A new study from the University of Iowa might help female sufferers of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Iowa researchers have "found a protein involved in muscle pain [that] works in conjunction with the male hormone testosterone to protect against muscle fatigue" — which might be why women suffer from the pain of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue in much greater numbers than men do. Scientists will continue to study the relationship between testosterone and the ASIC3 protein which might lead to new breakthroughs in the treatment of such painful maladies. [UPI]

DISCUSSION

@Centaurea:

Don't you know, all female disorders are really caused by hysteria. Fibromyalgia, depression, hypothyroidism, bipolar disorder, CFS, all of these are "all in your head". It is those pesky female hormones making you imagine you are sick just cause you want attention, silly!

As someone who went for 4 years with untreated hypothyroidism that included a visible (in scans) goiter, being told I was "just looking for an excuse for my weight", which was a whopping 115lb at the time, this just makes me so angry. But women are all so hysteric, they think they are fat at 115lb and make up diseases.
