Big Hair, Neon and '80s New York: Here’s a Look at Baby Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries

Latest

I had just watched the The Carrie Diaries season preview and was beginning to wonder: Is there anyway that this could be good? Or will it put the “blah” in Manolo Blahnik?

Lies. I didn’t wonder that. The Carrie Diaries, a prequel to Sex and the City, a popular HBO comedy that focused on four earthy philanthropists meeting over green tea to discuss consumerism, is a CW show which means one of two things — it will be good bad or bad bad. (I’m not being mean — I’ll generally take good bad over good good any day.) The show focuses on a high school-aged Carrie Bradshaw who leaves her suburban town to go to New York for a mid-school year internship. See, Carrie? This is why you don’t write so well! Your father actually let you stop going to high school so that you could live in the big city and hang out at cocaine bars with leather couches.

Like Carrie in her 30s, Carrie in her 20s worries about friends, clothes, work and boys. Does she continue down the exciting path to the New York City culture scene? Does she realize that her new friend Larissa (the black lady who — HA — Carrie thought was trying to steal her purse) is played by the same actress who was the worst Doctor Who companion ever? Or does she go back to her podunk friends and shack up with the blond dude who I guess is not Chord Overstreet? We’ll find out in January.

Pun. Pun. Something about friendship. Pun.
