Susan Sarandon Talks About That Time She Was Sexually Assaulted on the Casting Couch

Once upon a time, Susan Sarandon was a struggling young actress trying to break into the industry and simultaneously avoid being groped by gross casting directors. In a recent interview for Elle‘s November issue, Sarandon talks about a particularly “disgusting” experience from her early days in New York City, when she was assaulted on the proverbial casting-couch:

I just went into a room, and a guy practically threw me on the desk. It was my early days in New York, and it was really disgusting. It wasn’t like I gave it a second though, it was so badly done.

She added wryly that the incident “was not successful — for either of us,” smiling, we can imagine, in such a way as to indicate that the joke is on that creep of a casting director because he’s somewhere still being creepy and she’s a big-time star with a 35-year-old ping-pong entrepreneur boyfriend. • Because I’m pretty much a wizard, rumors that Tom Hardy might be in Fifty Shades casting contention are proving to be more than just fever dreams. Also, Mila Kunis might be in it, too, but who knows if any of this stuff is true? I’ve heard that producers really want to use sock puppets. [Examiner]
