A Gay Uncle and a Baby With Three Thumbs: The Honey Boo Boo Season Finale

TLC ended its run of its highly successful Here Comes Honey Boo Boo last night with a one-hour season finale that introduced viewers to two new family members—newborn baby Kaitlyn, who was born with three thumbs, and Uncle Poodle, Sugar Bear’s gay brother—further demonstrating the clan’s warts-(or thumbs?)-and-all inclusiveness that we love.

And they seem to have a sense of humor about the extra thumb thing. Or at least they weren’t precious about it, admitting how it was “freaking weird” but not treating the infant any differently than they do the rest anyone else, hazing her into the family with same good-natured ribbing they dish out to each other of their various “special features” like neck crust or bad breath or extra weight or forklift foot.

And then there was Lee, who like the rest of the family, has a nickname—”Uncle Poodle”—given to him by Alana, who apparently calls all gay people “poodle.”

The network has already ordered more episodes, promising three holiday specials for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas while contract negotiations for another season are being worked out. (The family is rumored to be asking for $10,000 per episode, more than doubling the reported $4,000 per episode they received for the first season.)
