Congressional Candidate Mia Love Is 'Disappointed But Not Surprised' by Racist Mail

Latest

Ugh: someone sent Saratoga Springs Mayor and GOP congressional hopeful Mia Love a packet of unarguably disturbing images, including a photo of Love and her husband, images of hooded KKK members, and some pictures of aborted fetuses for good measure. (The latter of which is kind of odd, since Love supports her party’s stance on abortion. Maybe the sender doesn’t discriminate when it comes to fearmongering and mixed his parcels up?)

Love, who would be the first black woman Republican elected to Congress if she beats incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Matheson, told Fox News’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” that she was “disappointed but not surprised” by the package. “Oh, you know, it’s just to be expected,” Love said on Wednesday. “Am I surprised? No. Am I disappointed? Absolutely.”

We say “Ugh” because racism is never okay, but also because Love, who thinks her party’s plan offers “more free choice and more liberties” for women, is responding to these attacks with a “money bomb” on her website, insinuating that her rival is behind the racist materials:

Jim Matheson and his liberal friends in Washington are scared that they are going to lose this race. They are spending millions on TV ads attacking Mia Love. These ads are distorting the truth, and use blatant lies in a sleazy attempt to defeat Mia.
They are now even attacking her family.
But we aren’t going to let them get away with it.
We are combating these attacks with something our opponent clearly doesn’t know a lot about – the TRUTH.
Please make a donation using the form below to help us reach our goal of raising $50,000 so we can respond to these false ads with the TRUTH.

She’s received a little over $14,000 so far, which means whoever sent Love the package helped her, not hurt her.
