The Brooklyn Peaches Will Inspire You to Start Your Own Neighborhood Synchronized Swimming Team

Latest

I’m a little obsessed with The Brooklyn Peaches, the borough’s recreational synchronized swimming team, because the retro bathing suit-clad swimmers remind me of cheerful hipster dolphins — and I mean that as a compliment.

“Synchronized swimming is not your average hobby, but neither is bowling,” team co-founder Nicole Salm explains in a video for The Daily. She and Nicole Sciarrillo lead a team of mostly amateur swimmers who say the organized underwater turning and jumping is their way to have a creative outlet and release after work. Plus, it makes a highly competitive sport accessible even for those who haven’t been practicing treading water since kindergarten.

As you can see from the video, the team looks awesome, but it’s more about fun than rules; there’s even a dude on the team! (“Being the only guy on the team is a talking point but we don’t make a big deal out of it,” he says.) I know what I’m doing next summer.
