The Emmy Nominations Are In: Lena Dunham and Girls Get the Nod

Latest

Nominations for the 64th annual primetime Emmys were announced this morning, and brand-spanking-new show Girls is up against veterans like 30 Rock, Modern Family and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Lena Dunham has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress, recognized alongside old-timers like Amy Poehler, Edie Falco and Tina Fey.

A few notes:
Kristen Wiig was nominated for her final season of SNL. FX Network’s American Horror Story and AMC’s Mad Men have the most nominations, with 17 each. Homeland received the most Emmy nominations of any freshman comedy or drama series this year. No major nominations for Community, Glee, Parenthood, Fringe. Some are saying John Slattery and Nick Offerman were snubbed. Additional interesting note: In the Outstanding Drama category, there are no nominations for network dramas. All of the shows are serials from cable networks (well, Downton Abbey is on PBS, but still.) ABC, CBS, NBC: No noms for drama. And, you could probably guess this, but no black women were nominated. (Sofia Vergara and Archie Panjabi are the women of color in major categories.)
