Awesome Cat Mayor Proudly Presides Over Alaska Town

Latest

Congratulations are in order for Stubbs, the tailless part manx cat who recently celebrated his 15th anniversary of becoming the mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska. Not only has he singlehandedly (paw-dedly?) put his town on the map, he may already be on the short list for Vice President!

Stubbs was first elected mayor after citizens of the 900-person town agreed that they weren’t wild about any of the human candidates running for office and wrote in the name of a newly born kitten with no tail instead. He’s reigned over peaceful times in Talkeetna, even drawing tourists to the hamlet and remaining popular among His People.

I know what you’re thinking, because I’ve already thought of it, too: Why not follow Talkeetna’s lead and replace all of our elected officials with cats? Sorry, but that won’t work. First of all, buying cat litter is a pain in the ass, and we’d have to budget for special envoys to transport truckloads of Tidy Cats to the Capitol, plus employ thousands of Americans to clean up the clumps our elected Congressmen left in their refuse boxes and we simply don’t have the money for that now. And if you think replacing elected officials with cats would somehow alleviate beltway gridlock, think again. If there’s anything cats hate more than hugs and baths, it’s cats they don’t already know. Impractical.
