Transgendered Against Me! Singer Laura Jane Grace Wanted To Be Mia Farrow In Rosemary's Baby

Last month, the punk band Against Me!’s singer and guitarist Tom Gabel announced that he would be living his life as Laura-Jane Grace. She spoke to MTV News about her personal transition and the certain quirks that people have difficulty understanding.

“When you’re younger, you don’t necessarily get it, [but] I just completely identified with Madonna. Watching Rosemary’s Baby, and seeing Mia Farrow with a boy’s haircut, was another moment I remember thinking, ‘That’s me, that’s what I’m going to grow up to be, that’s the kind of woman that I’ll be.’
When I told my wife – who was the first person I came out to, immediately it was like this huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. You have these moments when you’re younger where you’re like ‘Okay, I’m going to choose to be male, I will be male, this is it, and I’m gonna take all my women’s clothes that I have secretly hidden under my bed and I’m going to put them in a garbage bag and I’m going to throw them in the dumpster and swear off this behavior, but then you get to this point where you are 31 and you realize this isn’t going away.
There are going to be a lot of things about me in my life that don’t line up, and that’s okay. Like, the fact that I identify as female, that my name is Laura, that I want you to call me she, or her, but then I am fine with my daughter calling me ‘daddy’, that may not line up for some people, but that’s all right.”

And here is a video of Joan Jett and Grace covering The Replacements’ “Androgynous” that I just listened to a bunch of times.
