When the driver of his school bus started shaking and "acting all funny," 13-year-old Jeremy Wuitschick of Milton, WA (south King County! Woooooo!) jumped into action. As you can see in this fucking awesome security video, the 7th-grader grabbed the wheel and brought the careening school bus to a stop while other students called 911. According to the LA Times:
Short and police Chief Bill Rhoads gave everyone on board an A+ — especially Wuitschick, whose grace under pressure helped keep all the students safe, and prevented the school bus from hitting any other vehicles.
"We're just happy the kid was thinking on his feet," Rhoads told the news service.
As for Wuitschick, he wishes he could have done more. He said he plans to learn CPR so he'll be better prepared when another emergency situation strikes.
"When something major happens, I always look back to see what I could have done better," he said.
ADORABLE. My only question is how the hell did this kid know how to stop a moving school bus? I don't even know if I could do it (don't they have weird pedals and stuff?), and I'm a grown lady with a driver's license and full-length legs. But anyway, more importantly, can someone PLEASE cast Jeremy Wuitschick in some sort of buddy comedy with Captain Sully Sullenberger?
