Much unlike many a magazine editor who recommends you buy all sorts of crap that they most likely got for free, your Jezebel staff doesn't get jack shit (other than books, unsolicited). And that's how it should be. But on our own time, in our personal lives, we still buy stuff. So this is Worth It, our recommendation of random things that we've actually spent our own money on. These are the things we buy regularly or really like, things we'd actually tell our friends about. And now we're telling you.
There are pros and cons to my hair (it contains multitudes): it's wavy, and there's a lot of it, but my strands are frustratingly baby-fine. Because of this, humidity presents a major quandary: I can barely step outside without my hair frizzing up, but serums make me look like I've been swimming in an oil slick. I also hate serums on principle, because they get all over everything, and since I like to keep hair products with me when it's warm out, I've sullied many a purse lining with sticky, viscous goo.
I thought I'd have to make a choice — frizzy but clean or sleek but greasy — until I bought Biosilk Silk Therapy Shine-On Finishing Spray from my local Duane Reade on a whim. It turns out that spraying serum on your hair CHANGES EVERYTHING. The spray instantly defrizzes my hair and makes it smooth and shiny, but without the grease I'm used to. It's like having your cake and eating it too, if baked goods came in an aerosol can and made you look presentable in 80-degree weather.
The product is purportedly a finishing spray, but I use it for a variety of needs — I spray it on after I get out of the shower so it's easier to comb out tangles, use it in the morning to combat bedhead, and keep it in my purse so I can whip it out if the climate so requires. (It's not tiny, which makes it a sweet bargain, but it's slim enough for a medium-sized purse.) I love Biosilk Silk Therapy Shine-On Finishing Spray so much that I once had a dream — nay, a nightmare — that it was discontinued and I had to call Biosilk and beg them to reconsider. This stuff is for real.
