Madonna's forthcoming clothing, accessories, and general "lifestyle" brand, Truth or Dare, will ship its first products to stores for this fall. Madge, who isn't yet doing press for the label, is starting from the bottom up: Truth or Dare is launching as a shoe line first.
"Her fingers are really on this brand," insists Madonna's stylist, Arianne Phillips. It sounds like Madonna and Phillips went through your standard-issue celebrity "find something nice in closet, tell peons to knock it off" creative process. "The first thing I did," says Phillips, "was remind her of all the shoes she wore over the years, and we took the styles that we can't live without. You can always depend on her to bring her style and provocateur quality, but she also has a very feminine perspective."
The label is debuting with more than 60 styles of shoe and they will retail for $89-$349. (Three are shown above.) The shoes will be produced under license by Aldo, and sold at Nordstrom, Asos.com, and Macy's. Macy's spokesperson seems determined to fit as many meaningless buzzwords as possible into her excited-sounding soundbite: "We think our customer will be excited about this line because it's by such an iconic and innovative creative such as Madonna."
The spokesperson for Iconix Brand Group, the company with which Madonna negotiated this line (and her tween-focused Material Girl line) into existence, said — reportedly with a straight face — "I don't really look at it as a celebrity line." Madonna's involvement, you see, is just "a nice twist."
