Recently, scientists figured out that cats drink by drawing a column of water up with the tip of their tongue, then snapping their jaws over it. While it was assumed that dogs sloppily ladle water with their tongues, Harvard University researchers have determined that they use the same complex technique as cats. This x-ray video makes the process look elegant, but researchers note that dogs dip their tongues farther into their bowls than cats, and thus make more of a mess.
