The Stefano Gabbana half of Dolce & Gabbana was sent an advance copy of American Vogue's June issue — because Penelope Cruz wears a Dolce & Gabbana dress on the cover and in several pages of the accompanying inside spread.
Gabbana promptly published his reactions ("Thank you Anna!!!!! :-)))") alongside three pictures of the issue. Whoops! That was the first time Cruz's cover had been posted anywhere! We're barely into May, and already the June cover leaks.
Vogue HQ ordered Gabbana to take the post down; he complied. But because this is the Internet, nothing is ever truly gone.
So we can still see some hastily-taken cell phone pictures of Penelope Cruz wearing Dolce & Gabbana. This collection has proven a popular one for the Italian brand — one count puts the number of fashion magazine covers worldwide that have featured spring Dolce & Gabbana at 42. Let that be a comfort to a designer who, having shamed himself before the shogunate, is probably now faced with the choice of whether to continue with the sending of apologetic bouquets, enter the witness protection program and live out his days as a Bronx fishmonger named Steven Gaban, or just get on with his seppuku.
