Researchers in Japan have created a virtual reality system that makes people think they're eating a more delectable cookie than they actually are. When the image of a chocolate chip or almond cookie is projected onto a bland cookie as the corresponding scent is pumped into the system, people think they're eating the real thing. This may mean that in the future, eating a bland wafer could be as satisfying as munching on Girl Scout cookies! (As long as you're wearing a giant plastic helmet that hooks into your nostrils.)
