Why Must A Celebrity Assert Herself On A Swing?

Last night at the Grammys, Katy Perry’s performance included a swing. Hmm, where have we seen that before?

Oh yes, that’s right. When Katy did it in 2009. Except the swing was a moon! (She’s had swings in several shows, actually.)

Mariah did it in January of 2010, putting a princessy spin on her swing, of course.

Pink’s love of acrobatics has put her on a trapeze-like swing; this is in Switzerland in 2006.

Rihanna posed with a swinging trapeze in a 2009 photo shoot.

Kim Kardashian pretended to be a swinger in an ad for her fragrance.

Victoria Beckham also used a swing for an ad campaign — dresses, though, not perfume. Nothing says carefree, young and playful like wearing six inch Louboutins!

Of course, one of the most iconic swing moments was the 1992 Coco Chanel ad starring Vanessa Paradis as a literal songbird trapped in cage.

The moral of the story? If you want people you think you’re wild, fun, girlish, unfettered and unoriginal, put on a fancy dress and get on a swing.
