The Republican National Committee, having just been forced to disclose that it has spent $150,000 to outfit Sarah Palin in a variety of business suits, is now allowing the McCain campaign to disclose that "it was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign." The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder wonders if it's illegal for the RNC to buy her clothes, though, if it was legal, they probably wouldn't be donating the clothes after the campaign. By the way, according to the IRS, if you buy business suits for your job, you can't claim those as a business expense on your taxes, and, Ambinder notes, a similar rule applies to political candidates.
