Remember when there used to be more than like 3 female rappers around? No? Well, our kind buddy Rich unearthed a 1991 pay-per-view special called Sisters in the Name of Rap that featured all the heavy-hitters of the day-YoYo, Salt-N-Pepa, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Roxanne Shante-(and a bunch of women I don't remember at all, some of whom showed up for the taping pregnant). He posted a bunch of the performances on his YouTube account, and wrote about how fucked up it is that there aren't many women in the rap game these days, and even when there were, male guest rappers often got louder applause from the audience.
