Here's the trailer for the film On the Doll, starring Brittany Snow, which debuted online yesterday instead of in theaters. (You can download it for $9.99 on the website.) It was written and directed by Thomas Mignone, a music video director who has worked with rock bands like Cradle of Filth, Type O Negative, Mudvayne, Slipknot, System of a Down, and Sepultura, which means I've never seen his work before. When viewing the trailer, I couldn't exactly figure out what the movie was about — it seems like a dark story featuring young dominatrix-type hookers who punch men in the balls — but apparently it's really about people who have been the victims of molestation as children and the lasting affect such abuse has on them later in their lives. The title of the film refers to a common request asked by therapists of children who were victims of abuse: "Show me on the doll where he touched you." Apparently there are very graphic scenes in the movie, including one where two girls cut off their teacher's balls and then throw the ball sack out a car window.
It freaks me out to no end when Brittany Snow is cast as these bizarre characters. I know that she is trying not to be type-cast, and more power to her. But in my head she should be dancing on Bandstand, NOT punching Johns in the balls. If the trailer disturbs me this much, I should probably pass on the film.
