The San Francisco Zoo is proud to announce the birth of a male baby western lowland gorilla, born Monday, December 8 at 11:30 a.m.

I wondered immediately why a human was holding this baby. Zoos have long since stopped raising baby primates as if they were human babies.

If you follow the link there's a really good article about it. Seems the mom is showing signs of rejecting the baby so they had to remove it to make sure it gets the care it needs. The zoo staff have a plan to try to reintroduce the baby so she can be raised by her natural mother.
