Last month, Lady Gaga said she'd agreed to release an exclusive edition of her album Born This Way at Target after the company agreed to make amends for donating money to anti-gay political candidates. However, the deal has fallen through. A source tells The Advocate, "She and Target didn't see eye to eye on Target's policy of political donations and how they affect the LGBT community."
I'm not really clear on this one, but to me it looks like Lady Gaga is not a great businesswoman/does not have a great business manager. Target has long been portrayed as gay-friendly, save for the recent donation to a PAC which supported an anti-gay marriage candidate. So, her decision to reverse because Target hasn't been doing LGBTQ donations (when they sponsor Pride in Mpls) doesn't make sense.
I'm not saying Target's donation was right, nor that they shouldn't do more. Just that they are doing more than many other national chains. For instance, Best Buy also made a donation to that same PAC but there has not been a national hue and cry over that.
