Citing a South African study showing that male circumcision reduces HIV transmission, the deputy prime minister of Zimbabwe is trying to get all the male ministers to get circumcised themselves as a promotion. As it happens, said deputy prime minister is a woman, and some of her colleagues are reluctant. One very unconvincing rebuttal: "I am sure in other countries women get circumcised and DPM Khupe must sacrifice herself first and have her organ mutilated. She must also say women in turn should also be circumcised in this manner before asking the male counterparts to do that."
Please forgive the vast amount of ignorance I bring to this question, because I am going to ask it anyway.
My old high school Latin teacher (great way to start out a story, right?) loved to tell, during moments of down-time in class, engagingly filthy stories. One of the more vivid stories I can recall was about a friend of his who converted to Judaism in his thirties, and who wanted to get circumcised as part of his conversion. The gist of the story was that stitches are basically no match against the male sexual response, which made for a long and painful recovery.
Was this just horrifying nonsense, or is there any truth to it? If it's true...yikes.
