Last night marked the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, which, in addition to Russell Brand, the tributes from the Hunger Games, Fun (Period), and lots of 16-year-olds screeching, promised the debut trailer for the film adaptation of Stephen Chbosky popular, epistolary teen novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Mounting expectations have been built around the film, especially with the casting editions of Jezebel Fan Favorite Paul Rudd and Emma Watson in her first post-Harry Potter leading role (she had a small part in My Week with Marilyn).

Wallflower is as criticized for being overly-precious as it is revered for being an honest depiction of teen life, giving the film adaptation the unique challenge of trying to please the book's detractors and fans alike. The good news, as demonstrated by the very existence of the MTV Movie Awards, is that teens will generally watch anything we tell them to.

Shine on, Hermione Granger. You are infinite.
