Why the Hell Did Someone Hire a White Guy to Read an Essay That Begins 'I'm a Southern Black Woman'?
I remember being at a dive bar once when a rap song came on the Jukebox and I absently went, "Oh, I love this one," and the guy sitting a few seats down from me snorted and went, "Sure, but do you even understand it?" Before my husband could even say anything, the bartender, who had thus far been this silent giant of grey beard and bandana looked over, scowled, and went, "Aw, fuck off with that bro, don't bring that sexist shit in here." The stunned silence from everyone was deafening. Just... from the place you'd least expect it, and especially since it was our first time there, you'd think he just wouldn't get involved. Got himself a big tip though.
