"Feminine smokers of London, England, are adopting a dainty little pipe," reads this article from the 1934 issue of Modern Mechanix. "Cigarette tobacco is crumpled in the tiny bowl and lit in the approved masculine fashion." Uh, "approved masculine fashion"??? What is that, with a grunt and a match struck on your own chest-nest? The short piece ends with "The pipes are scarcely heavier than the average cigarette holder." Because you know, girls don't have the muscle mass to hold heavy pipes. Also, we think Miss Helen Konicke, pictured, might be smoking something funny — she's way too happy! (Click picture for a full-sized view.) [Modern Mechanix]
