TVLine reports that Nashville’s sixth season is also its last. Executive producer Marshall Herskovitz gave a statement thanking CMT for picking up the series after ABC cancelled it for the first time in 2016, so they could keep “telling the story of these remarkable characters.”
“And we want to return the favor with a final season that celebrates all the joys and passions, twists and turns — and amazing music! — that made Nashville such an exciting journey for the last six years.”
Variety reports that Nashville is one of the highest-rated and most-watched shows in the history of CMT, so the decision to cancel seems strange, but maybe they want to go out on a high note.
Who else gonna die?! If the show gets picked up by a third network, which main character will beg to be killed off, permanently and forever? Who will fill our ears with music and our minds with drama if it doesn’t? The sneak peek of the final season looks like there will be more loving reunions than wild twists and turns, but surely they’ll pull out all the stops. After all, this is Nashville.
