Lips Are the New Butts

Americans are obsessed with getting fuller lips, according to recent stats that show lip surgeries growing in popularity last year and celebs like Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Lawrence being prime inspiration.

Butt lifts and implants still increased considerably, according to numbers from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, but lips are catching up.

CBS News reports:

A record number of Americans underwent lip augmentation procedures in 2015, making them the second fastest growing facial procedure in the United States since 2000...

The number of lip enhancements rose 5 percent in 2015, which is an increase of 50 percent from 15 years ago. A total of 27,449 lip augmentations were performed, 1,200 of which were male patients.

One reason for the growth is that upgrades in lip implant designs—they’re silicone-based and softer than before—have made them more desirable.

“Lip implants have been around for quite a while, but new technology is taking the industry by storm,” plastic surgeon Robert Houser told CBS before flying away in a lip-shaped rocket.

They also seem more accessible to the masses than ever, with plenty of options available:

Additionally, there’s been a steady rise in lip injections, including Botox and Dysport injections and soft tissue fillers. These temporary procedures may be a good option for some patients, doctors say, since if they end up not liking them, the effects will wear off within a few months.

According to a survey of roughly 1,000 women, the most coveted (read: mostly white) celebrity lips include Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson and Beyoncé.

Specifically, though, Kylie. Dr. Norman Rowe told Mashable, “Many come in saying they want her lips. She certainly has a huge implant on lip injections and the transformation is obvious and is remarkable on her social media.”
