If you assumed there was some kind of underground society of female meteorologists scheming to make all forecasts look exactly the same, you would be right.


Apparently, female meteorologists generally have to abide by a very strict dress code: only specific sleeve length and styles, colors, and patterns are allowed on air, and their viewers complain if they repeat outfits too frequently. Shelby Hays, an Oklahoma meteorologist told Tech Insider that because of these regulations, female meteorologists have come together in a private Facebook group where they offer each other fashion advice.


A few weeks ago, someone found the $23 Homeyee Women’s Stretch Tunic Pencil Sheath Dress on Amazon and posted it on the Facebook group. It came in seven colors and would become the unofficial uniform for female meteorologists across the country.

“Someone stumbled onto ‘the dress’ and a few of us ordered it and shared pics of it on air in our group,” Hays said to Tech Insider. “Everyone saw how great it looked. At $23, we could buy a handful of these dresses for what we normally pay for just one.”

“More that [sic] 50 of us purchased the dress,” meteorologist Jennifer Myers wrote on Facebook. “So if you travel and watch the news, you might see something familiar...”
