After massive outcry following the University of Missouri’s failure to respond to several racist incidents on campus, the university’s chancellor R. Bowen Loftin has announced he will transition out of the position. This comes just hours after the school’s president, Tim Wolfe, announced his resignation.

Faculty and students have been calling for Loftin to step down—on Monday, the university’s deans sent a letter to the Board of Curators to express “deep concern about the multitude of crises on our flagship campus.”

The Kansas City Star reports:

The deans said Loftin has shown failed leadership through a number of instances, including the elimination and eventual reinstatement of graduate assistant health insurance and the elimination of the vice chancellor for health sciences position. The deans claim Loftin created a “toxic environment through threat, fear and intimidation.”

Loftin will take on a role coordinating research on campus.
