Rachel Jeantel, the close friend who was on the phone with Travon Martin moments before he was shot and killed by George Zimmerman has graduated from high school! A key witness in Zimmerman's trial, her entire identity as a 19-year-old black woman was heavily scrutinized by the media who took jabs at her attitude, appearance, and even the way she spoke (and whether or not she understood English) to devalue her and her credibility, adding yet another dose of controversy to the high-profile case.

Despite the overwhelming stress she went through, Jeantel kept her promise to Martin and earned her high school diploma, saying "I did it. The witness who didn't know how to speak English knows how to speak English through the 12th grade now. I never quit."

Congratulations Rachel!

Congratulations Rachel. All good things for you.

I need to borrow this line from her testimony: "I don't understand you. I do understand English."
