I've been thinking about Alex's assy behavior on the Homecoming episode and trying to analyze what's up with that kid. I can understand him not dancing with Amanda (I repeatedly avoided dancing with a guy-friend-who-not-so-secretly-crushed-o... at my junior prom by running into the bathroom), but why oh why couldn't he just smile in the damn picture? And why was he trying to make a big deal out of Amanda keeping her seat in class?

My theory is he was a nerdy virtual-nobody until the "cool kids" (a.k.a. assholes Giana and Trevor) decided to make him the focal point of their Amanda-sucks campaign. Now that King Adam is trying - with some success - to call off the dogs, Alex feels threatened that if everyone makes peace with Amanda as editor-in-chief, his new-found pseudo-coolness will disappear.

True story from when I was features editor at my high school paper ("The Buzz"): On Valentine's Day I walk into journalism class to find a Snack Pack chocolate pudding sitting on my desk. Next, the most awkward writer on staff (whose voice literally sounded like the nerd/scientist from "The Simpsons") walks in with a TUXEDO on. He gives me a rose and proceeds to pour me a glass of Martinelli's that he pulls out from his backpack (Yes, he is wearing a backpack over his suit and tie). This all happened in the middle of class, in front of everyone. Then he asks me if I would be his Valentine. I REALLY didn't want to, but our teacher gave me the most evil glare when I hesitated. It was scary.

I just got into "The Paper" on MTV.com recently, so I don't know if this has been mentioned in a previous thread, but does anyone else hear Alex doing the same "-ink" instead of "-ing" thing that Whitney does on "The Hills"? Maybe the MTV producers are just trying to encourage them to enunciate sufficiently?

Also, if Florida weren't so far away, I would track down Giana and slap her smug bitchface. And Trevor just needs to get kicked off the paper ASAP.

I haven't seen this show, I don't even know if it is on in the UK. I spent my youth and high school years in the US (like 12 years ago now) but even still my first reaction is I wouldn't want to watch it. But, I must admit, the more I read the more interesting it does sound.

Also, just reading here and seeing the text my first gut reaction was that Latin Club guy wussed out.

Adam's parents are complete assholes. You can't ground your kid from his responsibilities to other people. Ground him before homecoming, ground him after homecoming, but Amanda didn't do anything to get punished.
I just had flashbacks to my dramatic interpretation partner being grounded from the state finals when I was on the speech team in high school. STATE FINALS. We had first place in every tournament we entered that year and then his fucking jesus-freak parents grounded him for figuring out the parental lock code on the satellite box and watching MTV (seriously. And we were both 17 at the time).

and amanda, after having a little cry, was still looking forward to the dance because alex had told her that he would save a dance for her. and the jerk got all sweaty, pissy, and bitchy and avoided fulfilling his promise. at least she finally realized he was an asshole by the end of the episode. i hate alex more than anyone else on the show, and this is significant because giana and trevor set such a high bar.

oh noes! i forgot to watch this last night (although i was watching my so called life instead, so it's almost like i watched the paper). however, i LOVE LOVE LOVE that the latin boy made her translate him asking her to homecoming (i don't have sound, so that's what i'm assuming). that would have made me melt at 16. hell, it probably still would, as i'm a loser.

this episode made me feel all warm and fuzzy...i love the nerd drama, what can i say.

and honestly? that douchey adam character is so typical in high school--the insecure nerd who was once nice but when given a little bit of power/popularity/a girlfriend, acts like a jerk. he's so realistic that he can be hard to watch. sometimes they work out their issues and end up ok...other times they get worse in college. we all knew an adam, no?

My 15 year old half sister got grounded last week for sneaking out of the house while the family was watching Lost to walk around the block with her 15 year old skater boi boyfriend. My dad was not pleased. In other news, she had no plan of action for getting back into the house, short of walking back in the front door. I think she should have been grounded for being dumb. Think things through, stupid!
