She could very well be a 14...I'm 5'11" and was a size 13/14 through much of college, and as I recall I was built about like this. A size 14 looks very different on a tall girl than an average or petite one.

Also, most bathing suits run teeny, so even if she were a 10 in regular clothes (which I don't believe anyway...she's a bit bigger than that) she could very well be a 14 in swimwear.

Has anyone pointed out that the quote is "WHEN I wear a size 14"? I think her point is that no matter if she loses or gains weight, and no matter what the tag says on her clothes, she's hot. I wear a 6-8 usually, but occasionally there are random stores who use weird sizing where I have to pull and 11 or 13 or something that seems distressingly huge to my ego. I think that quote was less saying "Whitney is exactly a size 14" and more saying "Whitney is hot no matter her size (and so are you)."

She's also 5'10", according to wikipedia. (Which also claims she's a size 10?) And she can dedicate her time to being toned and healthy looking. So no, most women would not look anything like that at her size or weight.

Stomach flatness is no way to gauge weight, as that's effected by genetics and amount of stomach muscle. I am a flat-stomached size 10-- my roommate is a cute-stomach-pouched size 4.

Anyhow, I hope to see her in less senior-picture kinds of images soon.

i work in fashion, and this makes sense if you consider the fact that couture samples are made in a size 6--and fit runway models. do you think any runway model is a size 6??? maybe this was a poor example, but i don't have access to any patternmaking info that i can share. if you really want to know typical industry standards; look at professional dress form measurements. you will notice that the measurements are considerably smaller than mainstream sizing. (if you want to see dress form measurements you can search "U.S. professional dress form") a size 6 is about 34.5"-25"-35.5".

what i am trying to say in this overly long diatribe is that whitney does not look 'big' or 'plus-sized'. but as stated before on this thread--most "plus-size" models are about a size 8 in current mainstream industry sizing--that IS "plus-size" based upon the high-fashion industry standards. high-fashion uses different standards than, say, old navy or wal-mart, which emphasizes and perpetuates the dichotomy between how fashion portrays the female form and 'real' women's bodies.

Likely, her waist is smaller than a 14, but she needs the size to accomodate larger hips, broader shoulders, or a fuller bust. I'm 5'10" and in my fitter days I have looked something like this (sans bodacious bosoms - rowr!). And I took anything from an 8/10/12/14/16 in those days, depending on the store. Hell, most of my favorite dresses still hover around 12/14 these days.

What really bugs me is that fashion is SO size-and-label obsessed. It's all, "OMG, she's a size 14 and she's fun? HOW NOVEL! I never knew that size-14 ladies could be FUN! This is EAAAARTHSHATTERING." Which: meh. Sizing is all over the place. One of the thinnest, fittest girls I used to know was constantly rocking some weird designer size-12. Sizing is crazy.

One thing I keep picking up on in this thread is that it can be hard to believe that someone who has a certain set of measurements, or is a certain weight, or wears a certain size can look healthy and well-proportioned, but I think many women are/wear a larger size than what society considers attractive, but they look good because their weight is well distributed or their frame is kind of large.

It seems like in recent years the perception of a middle ground has vanished - if you aren't thin, you're fat; if you aren't wearing a size 0 or 2, you aren't thin, so when a woman appears in the public eye who really fits into that middle ground and looks fantastic, no one really knows what to think. Isn't she supposed to be fat? But she's not. Whether the newly crowned TM wears a size 8 or a size 18, she looks great; she just doesn't look at all like the women we're used to seeing in photographs in magazines.

im probably wrong for saying this, and i think she looks great, but I can see why runway models are so small. a normal size girl detracts from you viewing the clothing, because all i see when i look at her i, well, her. i think she is gorgeous, but should not be on the runway... the runway is fantasy-land and a template for art design.

and i realize its not healthy to project a size 2 as normal, but people should be looking at runway models as a bodily aesthetic. Yes, they are underweight and it is unhealthy, but so are horse jockeys and people in several other, less well paid, professions all over the world.

@mynameisrio: the fantasy comes into place when plus size is stated as always being a size 14 or over. that may be true in the garments (depending on height - a size 14 on woman who is 5'10" and a woman who is 5'5" will look completely different), but in modelling, plus-size is a size 8 or up, which is why there are agencies who cater to having actual real plus size women modelling plus size clothes instead of a size 8 woman modelling clothes not truly designed for her body type. there are modelling agencies who are employing many actual plus size women in the plus size market (i work part time for one) but the industry is changing...it's just going reeeally slowly.

So I suppose the models are held to a different standard, though I never really understood why. The magazine booking editors/modeling agencies all say "but that's the size of the samples"! And then the designers all say "but that's the size of the models!".

Everyone here who has commented that she can't be a size 14 because she has skinny arms or little boobs or a line down her stomach is a part of the problem. Seriously.

We embrace Whitney because she doesn't fit into the modeling standard, but then we turn around and try to fit her into some other standard--a standard which does not exist.

Every body is different. Even two bodies that are the same weight and height are completely different. There's no way to look at someone (especially when we all know that there has been photographic enhancement) and figure out what size she is and frankly, we shouldn't be trying. We should just say that she looks great and we love seeing a woman who doesn't fit the industry standards and not try to force into any others.

And for the record I am a size 14 and I have skinny arms and wear a B-cup and have in the past had some muscle definition in my midsection at this size.

She looks absolutely gorgeous, but I agree...doesn't seem size 14 to me. I'm her height (5'10"ish) and I size 10/12 and I'm bigger than she is...I think.

Also, there are a bunch of conspiracy theories floating the internet that she was about a size 4 and was approached by ANTM. They said, you won't make it at that size because you're too big to be a skinny model, but if you gained some weight...they had some pics of her looking really really thin...I don't even know what to believe.
