My grandma is fluent in German, my dad can sputter along in sort of a German patois, and I got NOTHIN'. I did take a few years in high school, so if I ever studied it again I could probably pick it back up, but my vocabulary is pretty lacking and I don't remember much about some of the more exotic grammatical formations - past perfect, weird subjunctives, etc. It's a hell of a language.

My brother and I still argue in German though. We only have one insult, and it is to call one another a pharmacist. A female pharmacist in German is die Apothekerin, which is pronounced ah-poh-TAY-ke-rin, and it's the funnest word on the planet to say.
