@gluecake: First, puppy-mills are an ongoing problem that never get ANY attention, so I think the puppies deserve one episode. Are you in favor of not education the public about that issue?

Second, did I say we should be inundated with topics? You keep arguing with strawSarahs. You'd swear I said puppies are the most important things on the planet and everyone forget the war for a minute to act on their behalf. Are you so blinded by Oprah-hate that you're against *anything* she addresses on her show? Seriously, what should she be covering instead of puppy mills on this particular show?

@SarahMC: Did I even say there was just one issue? I'm saying that there is a long list of items that could be addressed over puppy mills that also, hey, maybe really deserve more than one episode out of a year. What with them being an on-going problem and all.

But maybe you're right and we should all just be inundated with topics that barely scratch the surface for the sake of "changing it up". Because being focused never ends in results.

i think having a show that showcases puppy mills is such a great way to celebrate her dog. i don't think it's at all wrong or weird to do that for a pet. if i could do that for my doggie who died two years ago i so would. (celine would so not perform though. my doggie would NOT have approved of that.) i mean, i'm certainly still in mourning for my dog and most of my family is too. i don't understand why people have such negative reactions to people's close bonds with their pets.

Actually, Celine Dion is a good choice. Anyone remember the Kathy Griffin bit about meeting her after her show in Vegas, and petting her hair during the photo op? Kathy was dying with embarrassment when she realized what she was doing, and Celine proceeded to yip like a dog to break the tension. Obvs Kathy tells it better, but it made me like Celine Dion for doing that.

Brandy is a scientologist? Is it not really a religion so much as a place where D-list former celebs go to try to rehab their careers? Whenever I hear someone has become a Scientologist, next thing you know they start popping up on tv. Scary...

I'm a dog person. I'd be devastated if my dog died. And I understand the grief that goes along with it.

BUT. I'm tired of Oprah milking this. It was what, a year ago? And it's not like she ever scooped poop or trimmed nails or even walked that dog. You KNOW that. She probably had a staff just to care for the pup. So, she's really pissing me off with all this "oh, my Sophie" stuff, because she was most likely not involved in the day to day of dog ownership. She never had a Louboutin chewed by Sophie and loved her anyway. You know?

There are still morons in this world who buy dogs from pet stores/breeders and don't spay/neuter their pets, for crying out loud. More attention needs to be brought to the issue.

If her saying "this show is dedicated to Sophie" is the price, that's cool by me.

i don't think a show for her dog is THAT crazy. crazy is inviting celine dion to perform. but i would totally dedicate a show to my dog, but i'm absolutely crazy when it comes to my dog. so i'm probably not the best to judge.

i am ECSTATIC that she's doing a show on puppy mills though. If anything, oprah has a huge influence over the american public so maybe this will somehow get things in motion to stop those puppy-mill bastards.

all i know is, i don't think i'll be able to stand watching that show. i'll cry for days! she better have some happy dog stories in there somewhere!

At least Oprah's going to do something worthwhile with the Sophie tribute. My boyfriend's parents just got two new dogs from the shelter, and one was a breed bitch for a puppy mill. Katy spent the entirety of her first four years in a tiny little crate. They'd bring in a male to mate with her, get her pregnant, she'd have a litter of puppies, they'd take those puppies to sell in pet stores, and get her pregnant again. She'd never been inside a house before, still can't go up stairs, is incredibly shy and skittish, and gets really scared and defensive when another dog gets too close. She's a total sweetheart, and she's come a long way. But it's heart-breaking and enraging to think of what this poor pup has been through. So the more exposure to how awful puppy mills are, the better.
