Certainly you can quibble with how they choose to spend their money, but it seems a touch small-minded to whinge because they're not using their cash the way you would. If Brad and Angelina's charitable donations really, really bother you, why don't you write them a letter and ask them to take a look at a cause you feel is truly worthwhile? I bet they've got someone who manages and reads that sort of communication, and if you make your case well enough, you might just get their attention.

However, I think they seem pretty genuine (and pretty involved), but even if they aren't, it doesn't bother me. A lot of the time, most people are only able to help a cause by volunteering, donating blood, sending supplies, or a small amount of money. And a lot of people don't do any of these things, because they think those things don't count, don't add up to anything, or are embarrassed to do so little. I completely disagree, but it does help to have big names attached to causes. Sometimes it helps push/inspire people who are on the fence, to do something.

On every level, there are people who only donate so they can look good, be a "hero," name something after themselves, help with their taxes, or get their kid the biggest prize. If the people that need help, get help, I don't really care if it was only done to stroke an ego. And it's unfortunate that a lot of the time a bigger ego = a bigger checkbook, but needy people are benefiting from their weakness. I don't think you should bow before them, or anything, but a lot of people do jack shit and wallow in apathy, so I'm wary of criticizing someone who does something (even if it's the for the wrong reasons).

The family spent a weekend in New Orleans two weeks ago - as Pitt broke ground on his Make It Right project to help rebuild the city's Lower Ninth Ward - but they have recently been in the Austin, Texas, area while Pitt films Tree of Life with Sean Penn.
