For years and years and years, I couldn't wear them (and, oh, how I wanted them desperately). My feet are wide at the ball of the foot and very narrow at the heel, and Chucks never fit. Somewhere in the last five years or so, maybe the sole has changed, or possibly the shape of my foot itself. Maybe it was the three years of solid irish dancing, with the crazy tight ghillies (I actually wear half a size smaller now than I did before I took up that hobby, I swear).

Anyway, something's changed. I tried on a pair in February on a whim ($25 and plaid? NEED), and they actually fit. I can finally have the shoes I wanted so desperately for years! My life is complete.

In highschool, I bought a pair and was officially branded a rocker chick (in addition to being an artsy weirdo). But after that...they're just like a default pair of feet. They're thin as shit but last forever, not particularly comfy but not as bad as flats even, match with everything, and look good new and falling apart. I still wear my black ones every single day.

It's a good thing I didn't get stuck at one of those shiny, pretentious design firms. I get to wear jeans, sweatshirts and my chucks every day. My feet would kill me with its bare toes if I had to wear anything else.

They came out of the zappos.com box just this morning. It feels so weird to be wearing new Converse, and they are weirdly stiff and uncomfortable, but I was starting to feel like my ratty old black ones were not quite office appropriate. Also, I am OCD about certain colors clashing, and while I wear my old black ones all the time, I can't bring myself to wear them with a brown or navy blue shirt. Hence my need for a second pair.

I don't think Chucks send a particular "counterculture" message - I like them because they are so neutral and yet so open to interpretation, and because you can style them in such a variety of ways. Also, I just think their classic, simple look is timeless and aesthetically appealing.

Plus, when it's too cold for flip-flops, what else are you supposed to wear when you want to walk to the bar and then dance when you get there, without suffering from high heel induced agony?

@ineffable.me: I guess I'm a poser. I'm one of those chicks that wear low top Chucks(or ox's, such as) all the time. I have 6 pairs of different prints and colors so I'm all matchy matchy, too. I also have 2 pairs of One Stars: baby blue suede and black suede.

My new kick on kicks is Kedettes flats. They're old school super pointy toed Keds skimmers in faux patent leather. I have red ones and black ones, and metallic striped canvas ones, too.

I work for myself, so nobody cares what shoes I wear. I'm a 45 year old poser.

A beloved memory of my angsty youth, hung on a peg in my closet by the knotted laces, waiting for the day (not long now) when they'll fit my daughter.

I'm now a sneaker/flats girl, but even at the ripe old age of 35 I haven't grown out of my chucks. I have narrow feet, and they feel like the anti-shoe - only slightly less-nice than being barefoot. Current pair is age unknown, some shade of faded gray that I think was once blue. They're old friends. I'll probably want to have a funeral for them when they kick the bucket.
I've bought several pairs for the kid, but she prefers shoes she doens't have to lace. She lives in her slip-on Vans.

Shoes are hard, but Chucks make them easier.

It's like wearing Kleenex boxes on my feet. I do love my checkerboard Vans though. If Chucks are for slackers, Vans are like the even lazier cousin. I don't like tying shoes. Slip-ons or Velcro are my faves, though it's hard to find Velcro shoes that don't look like they belong to my grandparents.
