I have to agree - if this was aimed at adults as a tongue-in-cheek game I'd think it was hilarious, but to aim it at kids and to make them think that being a 'bimbo' is something to aspire to, is just appalling!! I first saw this on our local current affairs show. They prefaced the story by saying that they questioned whether to even do the story, fearing that by doing so, they could encourage more kids to want the game, but they felt it was their duty to warn parents that the game existed, so they could hopefully avoid their young daughters getting involved in it. It's truly sad to see what is being marketed to young girls today - I thought Bratz were bad enough, but when you start to see sexy 'bra and knicker' sets for 7 yr olds it's downright scary. A lot of the fashions that are targeted at the under-teens makes me fear that we're building a generation of 'mini streetwalker' look alikes. We need to have more positive role models in the entertainment world..... but who is going to have the guts to step out of the rut??

Let an 11 year old boy play a game where he is an Army Commando who gut shoots everything that moves and few are concerned. Let an 11 year old girl have what amounts to a cyber doll that actually represents current pop culture and everyone freaks out.

Our views on sex vs our views on violence are really screwed up. Both are inappropriate for children, but sex is a normal thing for kids to be interested in and something that most will be able to healthily (is that a word?) enjoy most of their adult lives. Yeah the game is probably titillating. When we were kids we had the lingerie section of the JC Penny catalogue and national geographic to get our freak on :) Hopefully that is not the case for blowing random people up.. or being a pimp that shoots cops for that matter.

I read that article and then I registered for the game just to see what it was like out of curiosity. Apart from a vaguely fun-filled 3 minutes where I chose an outfit for my bimbo (all the outfits are hideously slutty), I realised it is probably the MOST boring game ever. I enrolled my bimbo on a training course to become a baker which consisted of nothing but just clicking a button(??), fed her some diet pills, played one round of Mastermind (somehow sapped of all the fun that game usually has), and went into a club to find a boyfriend where I was told that no one liked me. There are 'challenges' where your outfit has to beat another player's by some untold mechanism. I lost three of them.

I have never, honestly, spent a more boring 30 minutes in my life. I don't know what kids could really see in it - it's like a glorified cartoondollemporium.com that makes you feel bad about yourself and gives you 'life goals' such as 'find a boyfriend' and 'get blonde pigtails'. If my kid was playing this, I'd be more concerned about the fact that they find it more interesting than reading a book, watching tv, playing or staring at the wall than the messages it was giving them.

Barbie seems so innocent now. She at least had LOTS of different things to do - she owns a sports car, she's been a doctor, a veterinarian, a teacher--Barbie has at least done some things that did not involve pink, makeup, weightloss, plastic surgery, or shopping.

Check your local toy aisle - stuff like legos, model kits (not moddle kits), and sports-related gear are so much more heavily marketed to boys. Sure, there are crappy toys that are marketed at boys, but at least SOME of them have merits. Exercise and creative endeavors are constructive outlets that are good for the brain and the body.

Then check the stuff that's marketed at girls. I get the creeping feeling that the toy aisle is telling little girls that the only things they have to aspire to are strictly appearance-based. It's all clothing, makeup, jewelry, shopping. (Have you guys seen the emphasis placed on shopping lately in the toy aisle? It's absurd! Bratz play-money and credit card kits! Bratz mall funtimes! Jesus.)

Little girls: Forget things like talent, humor, having a good vocabulary, spatial perception, skill, and quick wits. Those things are for squares because they can't be encrusted with pink rhinestones. All that matters is your appearance!
