@optical_allusion: that would all be well and good, except all the reports I've read about her time on the set are that she stayed to herself, didn't talk to anyone except for actually reading her script, and even wore dark sunglasses at the read-through. She wans't hanging on set, chatting with the actors (at least, according to the interviews I saw with Neil Patrick Harris and Allison Flanagan). But, sure, it's possible it helped her. But it still bothers me that she's more worried about learning lines for HIMYM than she is about fixing her problems.

Figured tons of people might give the show a chance out of curiosity & it would suck b/c she was on it. But I didn't think she was any worse than she normally was before the breakdown. Plus, they fortunately didn't give her that prominent of a roll. So all-in-all, it was better than my very low expectations! (But they should have loaded the show with more Barney if they really wanted to recruit new viewers to the show!)

@tellmeagain: I'd assume the 2 kids we see on the show are actually Teds - mostly b/c the girl is definitely not 8 years older than the bro.

And is the show really in danger of cancellation? (Sad!) CBS has so few non-crime shows that I don't see it dropping on of its Monday comedies (esp since I think I read New Adventures of Christine is getting the axe). And with the writers strike, I don't think they probably have a replacement sitcom in development.

At least that's my hope since I'll totally cry if we don't get to ever meet the damn mom!

i'm not sure who i'd like to see as the prince though. i'm sure james caviezel or viggo mortensen would do an excellent job but i'm not sure they quite fit the role. the prince is often brash and demonstrates very poor judgment due to his youthful inexperience and, while they've both excellently portrayed many nuanced characters, youthful inexperience has never been a hallmark of any of them.

So I always figured that these pop super-starlets had lots of personnel devoted to their mixing and recording, and I always kind of figured that they were not actually doing all the singing. Call me naive, then, but--why are they famous? There are thousands and thousands of good-looking young women out there with actual talent. Is it just that they don't have the visibility and massive publicity engines of the Britneys? And if so, how do I get a massive publicity engine? Other than, y'know, being born to Lynn Spears?

I know, I know. It's the virgin/whore dialectic, and the fact that the pop culture media can smell blood a mile away. But I know a lot of creative types who are insanely talented and hardworking, and they will never achieve a fraction of the wealth or publicity of the mass-marketed pop "singers."

I'm not bitter. Ever. NEVER.

You'd be surprised at how many of the non-singing pop stars do what Britney does, starting with Chili from TLC.

How I Met Your Mother continues to be a suck-ass show and while watching it last night for Britney and Eliot, I was reminded of it. Jesus. It just can't be a sitcom. No, it tries to hard to have this heartfelt emotion undercurrent and fails miserably.
