I really do wish that they would fix the grammar errors in their posts. Just because it's teh internets doesn't mean it doesn't have to subscribe to the generally accepted rules of competent writing.

Re-reading once or twice, handing it to someone else, and then leaving it to your audience to try and tear apart should do just fine.

In my comment, if I error then publish, I can't go back and delete and rewrite, or edit, so I'm pretty easy on the commentors who make errors.

That said, this being the last article of the day on a holiday weekend, I doubt ANY of their editors have looked at this since the second it was published, and all they were looking for was a working linky to the vid.

To me this seems like a strong case of the very intelligent troll, or perhaps I should call it pseudo-intelligence as it is. I'm sorry, Elephant-Island but from my point of view - and I've dealt with a lot of your type over the years - you're doing nothing but flame baiting and making a nuisance of yourself.

That clique like behaviour? That's called community, it happens. And unless you're an Randroid that hates everything even marginally sane you should understand the importance and eventuality of communities forming where-ever like minded people gather.

You likely won't leave though, trolls are spurred on my by the need to spout the same nonsense, from pure vulgarity to pseudo-intelectual yet ultimately tautological arguments so as to draw attention and stir the pot for no other reason than doing it.

So my advice to everyone else? Don't feed the troll, unlike chlymydia or republicans, it will leave when ignored long enough.

You don't know why I brought up Judith Butler ? Because Charlotte Corday insisted to me that because I acknowledged that a bias exists in the writing world, I'm somehow a worse person for entertaining the idea. Challenging an idea is not giving it ground. So, I don't know why it seems to you like that comment came out of nowhere, but the trajectory is obvious.

And if you're wondering, again, why I brought up French, it was in defense of the completely ridiculous and aggressive comment from Cam/Ron about a supposed fifth grade axiom of "language arts."

Please don't jump in the middle of this and assume you know everything about the conversation. My hostile responses are in response to hostility; what you may consider "throwing my education around" was nothing more than a response to two specific claims (Cam/ron's and Corday's) that I hadn't any. Don't vilify me for defending myself.

And again, I'm waiting for someone to tell me why a comment addressed to the writers on this site is the appropriate battleground for unrelated commenters. Why are you offended by what I say about Slut Machine ?

Nobody cares what books you've read or what languages you speak. At this point, they care about your blind refusal to acknowledge what you yourself call the "perfect irony" of your own error, and your inexplicable insistence upon throwing your intellectual weight around when it's completely irrelevant to the subject at hand.

I should think that your typo doesn't affect the validity of Judith Butler's work, but then her work doesn't affect the fact of your typo, either -- which is why nobody's sure what made you bring her up in response to having it pointed out.

You can complain about the tone of my criticism, if you want, but I wasn't, at any point, addressing you. But of course, some of you make it about you by calling me an asshole, to which I have to respond. This is what I mean by cliquish territorialism: taking on the defense of someone or something that you have no direct affiliation with but sense some gain in loyalty points for protecting. How does it hurt you if I say Slut Machine could use a little editing ? Please, look a bit into her history on Gawker and then try your hardest to say my comment about editing is even mean.

As someone noted above, this has gotten hostile and I don't understand why the healthy action of criticism on this site comes along with the foreknowledge and expectation that within minutes three people will have already called you an asshole. ALLEGIANCE ISN'T THOUGHT. Further, the Jezebel writers aren't babies; they don't need you to defend them against criticism, especially against an instance of it over which none of them will likely lose sleep. I was talking to the bf a second ago about this whole thing and, by actually speaking about it to an interlocutor who replied in real-time, I actually more concretely found the words for what it is that bugs me when I see this site looking a bit messy. It's that I see so much hostility and general assholery directed at Jezebel--mostly by fat-headed fuckups who think we just talk about clothes and the color pink on this site--and I enjoy the feeling of seeing, daily, how ridiculously wrong these critics are when reading the various intriguing threads here. But, at the same time, I think it's both a precarious and precious position to be in: not only are the writers here speaking to a large (and sometimes malleable) group of women, but how they write and what they write about, to me, represents a fantastic rebuttal, in and of itself, to any naysayers. That said, I guess I feel, like I said above, that it would really benefit the quality of the site if the editing were a bit more committed. I understand your point about copy-editors and the ubiquity of typos in books, but at Jezebel, the items are usually 100-word posts without the dint of a giant Penguin (publisher) peering over your shoulder, repeating the coordinates of a deadline. So, yeah, I think the reduced urgency should allow for a more thorough job. But by the looks of it, I guess that's just me (and the jerks over at the Gawker message board).

In any case, I do thank you for your rational response, which in turn inspired reason in me as well ! Ha ha.

I've found typos in novels and magazines, and I know Random House has line and copy editors. It happens. I think the reason people were so offended was the tone, not so much the correction. If you'd said something like "Hey, I noticed a typo in this sentence" you might have gotten a "thanks eagle eyes" but it came off as a stabby finger of "YOU! YOU are responsible for downfall of women's advancement in journalism!" was a bit over the top.

Do you speak any other languages ? French perhaps ? Savoir + ecrire = to know how to write. There is no semantic need whatsoever for "bien" or "well" in the sentence. At all. Try correcting everyone who advocates literacy by saying, "No, no, Mister. The students must not learn how to read, but how to read WELL." Unless you yourself are particularly handicapped with the English language and need the extra adverb to explicitly state what any average reader would sense implicitly (that is, that the emphasis is on a successful achievement of the thing-to-be-known), your lesson is gratuitous and silly. Nice try, though ! Maybe you should look into enrolling in that Language Arts class.

So funny to see them out and about in town, I used to see the Hulk and Nick at Blockbusters years ago getting movies and games. Just funny to see folks you see in real life all the time on tv doing the same thing we do. And I agree Brooke is beautiful without all the make-up and bleached ass hair.
