With so much rampant, drunken, unprotected sex, can these young people even be referred to as "children"?!?! I am all for helping them deal with the possible consequences of their (possibly passed out) actions, but don't keep referring to them as "children", as though they are so innocent. I don't think that regular "children" have drunken orgies... Well, at leat, to my knowledge!

I am not a parent yet, but I still can't even imagine what I would do if my daughter had been affected by this!

My aunt actually got pregnant with an IUD in; she jokes that "it was born right along with your cousin." And my mother had a Copper 7 IUD that perforated her uterus and caused peritonitis. No matter how safe/convenient my doctor tells me they are now, I just think "Nah, I'll stick with the Ortho-Novum, thanks."

But second, also as a parent (but they damn well better tell the parents if this happens) and also as an adult who remembers that age well: Good on them for having a school admin/community that is there for their kids (I can't imagine that here in the US, a school administration that actually has children reporting this stuff to them, not to mention the result of the telling?!?!!??!). Think of it this way: 10 girls (14yro!!), and thus of course, we'll assume 10 boys (hold back the snark); if you statistically consider that those 10 girls potential pregnancies had occurred, the damage done--economically and educationally and psychologically on an individual level--with some trickle-down, passing-down of learned history...hell. That's 30 lives in one generation alone, not to mention...well...you can imagine, exponentially speaking, in generations 2, 3, and 4.

That's sick, isn't it, to think of it that way. But my own family has too much experience with repeating the mistakes of the forebearers, if you will, to not consider that idea. That school administration has potentially changed the course of the basic-level-living/existing of at least 30 people, but more likely 60-120 more.

i have friend whose parents made her 14 yr old sister forceably get and IUD because they knew she was having sex and were worried she wasnt reponsible enough to take the pill or use condoms.

On the other hand i do think parents in the US molly coddle their kids a bit much - when i was travelling a few years ago i remember staying with american friends when i was here whose parents couldnt belive my parents had LET me go off round the world alone (i was 22).

That said young kids at home are getting out of control. its not just the drinking its the violence as well - i hear so many stories of gangs of teenage boys and girls terrorizing people on the streets - its really scary
