I find this piece totally interesting . This is a beautiful woman who has recently been put through a lot of stress. It makes her no less beautiful overall (give her a few weeks to emotionally recover, get a few days in a row of good sleep, and some time to stop crying and yelling, and she'll be right back to her normal radiant appearance), but the level of which stress appears on the face in a time of crisis is undeniable. and again, kinda fascinating. (However, to imply that it's permanent, is lame.)

But I don't think this is some huge example of the fault of Jezebel (ladies, I think you're awesome) Besides they've posted pictures of presidents and how they age over their term due to the stress... it's just a commentary... not a manifesto.

I don't know, it seems to me that the whole point of the Comments section is to, well, comment on the post. If people disagree with the editors' viewpoint, I think there is nothing wrong with saying so. In my opinion, none of the posts criticizing the editors have been abusive or ugly, so I think it's presumptuous for other commenters to "police" what other posters can say.

I understand that it might seem that these critical posts are repetitive, but I don't think it's because of any one poster repeatedly posting their opinion. Instead, it's because there are a lot of posters who have a similar opinion. Does that mean they shouldn't be allowed to voice it?

As a different way of looking at it, what if this article had been one that a large majority of commenters thought was fantastic and insightful? If they all kept posting praise of the editors, I have a feeling you wouldn't be complaining about the echo chamber. It just seems a little unfair.

That said, Jezebel is a great site, and the commenters are generally great, and I'm glad that Jezzies, both editors and readers, exist. Even when I'm totally pissed off after some of the political posts, I'm always impressed that people take the time to read and respond to each other in a reasonably civil way. I don't know if they're coming from the same people over and over. I think my point was that it seems like they are, and I just don't understand that.

I think we would just like to see a little more compassion toward our editors and maybe a re-examination from people who are criticizing the site about what exactly it is they are expecting from it. Of course harsh lighting is going to make her look worse. It makes everyone look more haggard. Can I say that I don't get the telling people to go away without being told to go away myself? Most of the people are not saying that the site is an irredeemable cesspool that makes them throw up in their mouths a little every time they visit - they're saying jezebel seems to profess to value certain ideals, but they (the site/the editors/whatever) are not doing a very good job of that right now/lately/on occasion/etc. Doesn't this mean those commenters actually *like* the site and just want it to better? Such as, I like the US but obviously think it could be better? If someone reads this site frequently and recommends it to their friends, sends links to people and so forth, then they are contributing to the site's revenue and I think it's quite alright for them to have an opinion.

Hortense's suggestion to just email one of the editors is a pretty sane one, although I'm guessing that some people feel they would not be taken seriously if they did that, whereas if they comment on a thread and can garner a lot of support from others, then they have the whole strength in numbers thing on their side and the complaint would more likely get addressed. That's what happened with the infamous Moe post about Obama and Hilary, right?

I wonder if this might have gone over better if the article text had gone more like, "Here is an awesome and accomplished lady. She is having a hell time right now, but look how awesome she is even though Gollum the Douchenozzle has kind of ruined her life publicly. She is a human being who is suffering because of this, but she is a very tough, intelligent lady and we all hope she will be okay."

I feel like that's what was trying to be said here, but I also understand that everyone's reactions to stuff like this will vary.

We've seen a pretty wide range of opinions about this piece in the comments so far. In that case it's not a matter of "interpreting" or going back and reading the text, because--sorry, I can't remember who said it, but it's kinda like "reaching", right?

She's stunning. Which is why I think so much media attention has been devoted to her and her choices.
Having gone through something similar, (at least my ex had his "to catch a predator" moment before he decided to run for office) I can pretty much guarantee that she hasn't slept, eaten, or stopped weeping for very long since Monday. That does tend to wreak havok on one's visage. If she's anything like me (and in this regard I hope she isn't) she'll lose about 15 lbs. in a month and cut her hair short b/c she's too sad to brush it.
(Although I hope after that she'll take a page from my book, dump the bastard and go on to have a better life without him.)
I don't find this particular post that offensive, but in general, I have found the coverage and media commentary about her to be very upsetting. But that's just b/c its a strong reminder of a horrible time in my own life. Does anyone else feel that way?

I understand there is anger brought about by certain posts--my initial reaction to this one was anger, as well. But when I re-read the post for the 5th (and reading the posts help, guys. Reading, and rereading.) time, I had a slightly better sense of what was being attempted. I don't necessarily agree with it, but I understand where it is coming from.

Using the posts as a platform to voice your overall disgust for Jezebel or Moe, or Anna, or anyone for that matter, is unnecessary and just as hurtful and insulting as the posts that seem to offend everyone.

guys, get serious here. This woman isn't "aging" per se. She's showing the incredible stress, grief, and other overwhelmingly negative emotions she must be experiencing during the past several days on her face. Period.

I remember commenting once that, as I've "aged", I've had guys -- especially younger ones -- hitting on me constantly while walking down the street, coming out of a gym, in a bookstore, yada yada. I also remarked that I was incredibly happy in my relationship. Many others noted the connection between the two. Fact is, your exterior very much reflects what's going on in your interior.

I think Silda is incredibly gorgeous. And I thought so the first time I laid eyes on her when she was standing next to Eliot as he apologized. In the eyes of the beholder and all, yo.

I think when he is all up in the news and such though, that is VERY hard on the kids. To have the mother stand by him for now, I think, is important to keep their lives a bit stable.
